Considerations for Video Files
The Asset Platform allows you to upload any type of file for storage, and we monitor usage of those assets based on 'request count' rather than overall bandwidth. This allows you to scales based on your audience, rather than the types of files that you need to use.
One exception to this is video files, because they tend to use a disproportionately high level of bandwidth compared to other file types. We therefore use a separate CDN for these files and track the usage of videos based on bandwidth, which is limited on a per-project basis within a calendar month.
The Servd Plugin will take care of ensuring the correct URLs are used for video files, so you shouldn't need to do anything special to get everything working. You may just notice that the domain being used for these files is slightly different to other files on the Asset Platform.
Once you being streaming video from the Asset Platform we'll show a usage meter on the Plan page within the Servd dashboard. Hitting 100% usage within a given month will alert us and we'll reach out to you to find a good solution. We also have an additional hard limit in place which will cut off video streaming once hit, but we'll have plenty of warning before that happens!
